If we could "magically transplant' some singers of today to ANY opera
era..I claim they would not be placed in any "lower level" that the
famous greats we know from recordings and some live experiences....I
speak of a few like these:
Di Donato
Zajick
Pape
Mattila
Quasthoff
Dessay
Netrebko
Giordani
and of course others...not everyone was a Chaliapin or a Gigli even
then......but they sure made a marvelous career.....
Not everyone is a "GIANT!"...
Yes..I would go NUTS for a Masini or a Favero or a Pinza..but I think
we do very well......at least we do not have any Primo
