Sylvia Allen, wife of Peter Allen (former host of the Met broadcasts), died
last night. They had been together, and in love, for 65 years. Peter, a
great guy and true gentleman, was totally devoted to his work in opera. If
anyone should wish to send him a message at this difficult time, I would he
happy to forward it. Thanks.

Their marriage certainly had an uncommonly great longevity.
Still, whatever the duration of a loving marriage, such a loss is
inconsolable. May Mrs. Allen's immortal soul rest in Heaven, in Eternal
and Blessed Peace, and may all Mr. Allen's loved ones and friends join
together to help him now, in this time of tragedy.

Best,
Leonard Tillman

Martin, I apologize for this much delayed communication. However, I recently retired and now have time to reflect on my life and and people who have positively influenced me. Myy father Duncan Pirnie and mother, Esther Pirnie were friends with Peter and Sylvia (WQXR connection)...I was a child of course at that time. Both of my parents are deceased. I will always remember Syliva or Mrs. Allen (as my parents insisted that I and my sister address their adult friends) as she was my favorite adult. She was the only adult outside of my family with whom I felt comfortable and with whom I could easily relate. Peter, or Mr. Allen, I recall as a gentle and incredibly intelligent soul, brought gifts of classic books or language cards (French) to contribute to my higher learning. Throughout my life, I have thought of the good people who made a difference in my life. Peter and Sylvia, or Mr. and Mrs. Allen were such good people. I am so sorry to have learned of Mrs. Allen's passing. If it is appropriate, please extend my belated condolences to Mr. Allen, and relay my communication. Thank you so much. Regards, Judy Pirnie Smith
