In my mention of the singing of our National Anthem by Robert Merrill,
as heard today at Yankee Stadium Old Timers' Day, I mentioned that
Merrill must be included in a list of the most gorgeous baritone
voices. I asked for the possible names of others in this class. Here
are some candidates in my opinion:

Pavel Lisitsian
Dmitri Hvorostovsky
Thomas Quasthoff
Riccardo Stracciari
John Charles Thomas

your list???? CH

My list would include the above, but add Tibbett and Bastianini.
Still, for me, Merrill will always be #1 for sheer vocal beauty.

Well, this IS an opera group, isn't it Mark. Would you rather we list
jockies who have won the Kentucky Derby? I find nothing wrong with
such lists. I hope others respond as I did.

I think that in 1953 the Kentucky Derby was won by jockey
Mario Ortica, who was mounted on a horse named Kurt Baum.....
However, they eventually were put out to pasture.....or possibly
SHOT!!!!

FUNNY..On so many forums, I have seen excellent threads that were
follow-ups to posters who made lists of favorites,etc..I wonder why
there might be some objection here......Many times a liast can
stimulate interesting discussions..pro and con..I think they are
important at times to stimulate discussions.....

I was just listening to an act of Don Carlos with him (Ortica)......I would
have to say that it defies description.
