Agree! I have long admired this great diva, but since she had not appeared
in the US for such a long while & her appearances were few & far between, I
had "forgotten" about her. Then, in mid 90s she was included on one of
those Pavarotti & Friends TV concerts & while no longer a youngster, I was
once again taken by her wonderful, solid singing & physical beauty.
She is the Tosca on an early filmed performance w/Milnes & PD, as well as
the Butterfly in a live performance from Verona some years later. Again,
she is so gorgeous in the Tosca that one can almost ignore her superb
singing; but in the Butterfly, she brings tears to my eyes - she does not
opt for the teenage Geisha cutsie interpretation, rather emphasizing the
"womanly" aspects of the character, which works fine for me.
Great, great stage presence. I regret never having had the honor of seeing
her perform in the theater.
