Probably because the people who posted the videos did not have any
rights to them, and those who did asked for them to be removed.

I'm sorry if the realities of copyright law and intellectual property
ownership don't suit you, but that's most likely the answer to the
OP's query. Your childish retorts only reflect badly on you. >> Stay informed about: Parterrebox Youtube account suspended? |

YouTube is very nervous about being sued, and all one has to do is
write them and claim that you have the copyright to a certain YouTube
or miltiple YouTubes. They will close your account, even though the
complainee does not have the right. They don't bother to check,
because they are too paranoid. Many YouTubes of many posters have been
taken down because of the complaints of one single "complainer." This
is a place in Europe called something like Onegin SL. They have the
rights to nothing, but by complaining, and lying in saying that they
do, all of the Parterre YouTubes, as well as many others, have been
suspended.

You are exactly correct, LDM. YouTube is too damn paranoid.

You could certainly debate how likely they are to encounter this music
on YouTube, since they're much more likely to be looking for Britney
Spears than Beverly Sills. And there is a "fair use" provision, but
some people just harvest copyrighted material repeatedly...not to
mention the greyer area of live performance stuff, which is by
definition illegal.

It's called La Vendetta!! And the suggestion that some on this list
would stoop to that strikes me as being apt.

Except it's almost certainly not that straight-forward.
There is a disturbed individual going by various names such as Oneguin65
and RaiTrade who is routinely claiming copyright to an increasing number
of opera clips on Youtube, leading first to the videos being removed and
after three breaches the user accounts being suspended. He follows his
unfounded copyright claims with a string of vulgar abuse into the inbox
of the person who had videos up. The actual copyright owners are not
doing it because a) they havebetter things to do with the time and b) on
balance they can recognise the marginal benefits of free advertising of
their product.
This sick person Oneguin65/RAITrade spitefully wants to remove the
enjoyment of many many people worldwide; there is some debate as to
whether he is motivated by obsessive admiration of one particular tenor
or whether he just wants himself to be the only supplier of opera videos

That is extremely unlikely.
It's obviously to the benefit of people producing and selling opera for the
art form to have a presence in a medium that reaches a broad young audience
that is otherwise unlikely to encounter this music.
The only people whose interests would be served by such deletions would be
people running rival websites.
What do you want to bet that this whole thing is the outgrowth of one of the
idiotic feuds right here on rmo? And the result is - on the day after
Beverly Sills' death, there is very little archival material available for
use in online memorials. >> Stay informed about: Parterrebox Youtube account suspended? |

YouTube facilitates browsing more than it does directed searching, and the
list of "similar" videos often turns up surprising things. >> Stay informed about: Parterrebox Youtube account suspended? |

Absolutely nothing. Most of my friends who have had their accounts
suspended have nothing to do with rmo. >> Stay informed about: Parterrebox Youtube account suspended? |
