All of my thoughts are with our friends in London today, hoping that all of
you, and yours, are well, and that the damage and pain to the city is
limited.

Thank you for your kind thoughts. Getting home should be...interesting,
although easier for an urbanite like myself than those in suburbia and
the commuter belt.

V. strange how elation can change to gloom in less than a day...

I've just had an email from an Opera-L-er who was having breakfast this
morning with David Daniels. "We have been in email contact with many
singers and they all seem fine, if confused."

I would like to add my thoughts and prayers to that. When I heard the
news I thought of all the people I know in London, including all of our
London basted rmo'ers.

I hope you and yours suffered no injuries and no damage, and I grieve
for those in London that were killed or injured.

What a terrible, terrible thing.

Sorry for the typo below. Of course, I meant "London based."

May I add my comments on this terible event...Remember how the
incredible courage of the British people during World War 2 was a model
for all to follow;the various documentaries that showed what strength
these people had..the V2 bombings and the tremendous courage in the
face of sufefring..and of course you had the leadership of the greatest
statesman in history, Winston Churchill.

Wishing you all my sincerest best..and hope things are
reasonably better...

Love, Charlie

Just to put it into context the extremes of emotion of those in the
capital, Jane...when I left work today, the newsstands had the local
newspapers on sale with the ghastly incidents of today, next to the
national papers that had the Olympic election victory.

Mine as well. I'm glad to see LDM is okay and we'll watch for all others to
report in.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts. News is still coming in and the full
extent of the casualties is not yet known.

The details I've read tell me that "at least 40 dead, although more are
feared".
I have just returned from our month-long concert tour in the U.S., and
although no visible signs of anti-terrorist activities were seen in the
larger cities, we were actually stopped on the way from Sierra Vista to
Tucson in Arizona at a temporary military check point on the highway and
physically searched. I was personally glad that it happened, specially
considering the fact that we were driving in a van, and our passports were
from Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, the U.S., and Britain (me). I think they were
more a deterrent for illegal immigrants crossing the border. We were also
stopped and questioned when we crossed the border between the U.S. and
Canada, in a way that was clearly aimed at revealing our intentions - no,
none of us was detained.
My worry is that although the authorities are trying their best in
rooting out terrorists, there will always be incidents the likes of this
recent one in London, when some one slips through, and our daily lives no
longer have the safety and comfort that we expect. "W" visited Copenhagen
yesterday, and the security measures were so drastic that one would think
Denmark is at war. Well, to the Muslim extremists, I suppose the whole of
the Western world is at war with them. My question now is: will this ever
stop?

"I think we've heard from just about everyone except the Riggs brothers,
Mike Volpe & Mr. SS. Please, everyone be certain to check in."
DonPaolo

The Riggs x 2 aren't English. I am, but I probably don't count.
