Post subject: Dress Code?

Pleas help, I am taking my wife to the Opera Bastille to see the Magic Flute on Saturday the 21st December for her 40th Birthday. However as this is our first trip to the Opera I have no idea what I should where, she will be in a posh frock but should I be in black Tie of will a suit do.
