A very impressive review of a broadcast, I must say. Inger Dam-Jensen is
the top Danish coloratura soprano of the day, and she has sung major roles
in all of the major opera houses in Europe. I am fortunate to know her
personally and enjoyed many of her distinguished performances at the DRO: a
simple Google search will yield a wealth of information about this fine
young soprano. Andrea Patucelli is a house guest, and since I am no longer
singing with the DRO, I have no idea about his performances, although my
ex-colleagues are all very impressed by his voice and performance.

Giancarlo Andretta is one of those few musicians about whom one cannot
say anything negative. A jovial 5'6 Italian who can only smile and encourage
everyone around him, he talks extremely fast, though with a heavy accent,
and has a habit of clicking his fingers to ensure that he gets the correct
tempi from singers and musicians. I was fortunate to be in the DRO's La
Traviata, Journey to Reims, and La Cenerentola conducted by him. Certainly
one of the many people whom I miss since my retirement from the DRO.

Musicological note, of sorts :

"Wolf's Glen" scene = Wolfsschluctszene = Act II, sc. ii of "Der Freischütz"

"Wolf's Crag" scene = Wolferag = Act III, sc.i of "Lucia di Lammermoor"

SJT, more Wälse than Wolfe...

Yes, yes. As I said to someone who had the grace to write me privately to
correct me, at least I didn't say Wolf's Lair......

But if I'd written to you privately - and perish the very thought ! - then
the misleading information would have remained here, in this august
compendiuous cyber-repository of operatic wisdom, for all the armies of
"newbies" old man handel's always grinding on about, to see and in all
probability [ such is your "clout", as we Francophiles say ] to emulate
ever-after to their ultimate embarassment and social distress. I view it
more as an act of supreme consideration and intellectual charity..

SJT, wondering if you meant "Wolf's Liar"

I meant Berchtesgarten but didn't think I had any hope of spelling that one
correctly. Here, it was 50/50.

Richard, still reeling from how Winnifred and 'the kinder' loved calling
'him' "Uncle Wolf".
